Creating an Environmental Portrait for an Editorial Assignment

When I get asked to create a business portrait for editorial, branding or commercial jobs, I like to see where we can get the most "bang for our buck" if you will, telling the story surrounding the subject and ensuring we capture an environmental portrait if needed. One of the wonderful things about my clients is that they always are happy to share their story and so together we come up with a plan for where to photograph them.

When I was asked to capture Kiana, the marketing director for Maui Gold Pineapple and Hawaii Farm Project, we looked to create an environmental portrait to include the history of the brand and the important elements that would complete the story. Keeping the Maui Gold branding visible in the background and supplementing with the historic elements like vintage photographs, books, artwork and historic packaging helps to tell the story around the subject.

It's always an honor to be asked to create environmental portraits, business portraits and editorial work for businesses and magazines. That's when we can creative collaborating as a team and have fun along the way creating exactly what the client wants and needs for the assignment.
